孪-SIAMESE-孪-1436
「孪-SIAMESE-孪-1436」 is a commissioned work by artist LU SISI, developed from his ongoing series of the same name. Drawing on 1436’s production journey—from land to factory, and from fibre to garment—the work brings together textile machinery, cashmere fibre, laser light, and cyclical movement. The work looks at changing relations of warmth between people and machines. The fine, soft textiles that sit close to the body and hold warmth are made possible by machines working with constant precision. As AI, automation, and large-scale mechanisation become increasingly present, the work stays with a moment in which people, machines, industry, and nature still rely on and adjust to one another, in equilibrium. After returning to Inner Mongolia, Lu spent time in Ordos, moving between industrial sites, natural environments, and the everyday lives of workers. These experiences became an important part of the work. Fibres suspended in the space carry and reveal the laser: the otherwise invisible beam is caught and scattered across their surfaces, bringing the physical fibre and the line of light together. The beam leads towards footage of machinery recorded by the artist at industrial sites. The images move in loops to electronic rhythms, alongside long-song-inspired melodies, the sound of breathing, and mechanical sound. Together they shape the work’s sense of time. Fibre extends through space; the loop extends through time. Light, sound, and machinery run through the work as one continuous thread.
